On Thursday, March 23rd 2023, Canada Skateboard hosted Safespace a panel discussion for SheCANSk8, Canada Skateboard's gender equity program, and presented by Bell.
The panel discussion was moderated by Annie Guglia, the first ever female Canadian Olympic skateboarder and president of Canada Skateboard. Panelists included, Vanessa Bowles, founder of Female Boarder Collective in Thunder Bay, Chantel Garcia, founder of Queer Skate Toronto, and Sophie Grant, accomplished Canadian skateboarder.
The topic of discussion was, Creating Safer Spaces Through Gender Equity in Skateboarding.
Panelists discussed the importance of representation, what gender equity really means in sport, barriers for entry, and how to create more opportunities
